Roasted Garlic Pizza

I had originally un-published this post as part of the purge but after repeated emails asking where the post went, I decided to re publish.

Ever since I tried kickpleat's pizza dough recipe, we've had different pizzas probably once a week. Our favorite, however, is the roasted garlic. It's incredibly simple, very tasty, and deliciously inexpensive. You probably have all of the ingredients in your kitchen right now.

Try it - and please, let me know what you think!! Also, go thank kickpleat for the amazingly easy and fabulous pizza dough recipe...I have, a number of times, and I think she thinks I'm some sort of weird stalker. But it's that good!!

The Easiest Pizza Dough In The World
everybody loves sandwiches

1 packet yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
1 cup warm water
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
cornmeal

Preheat oven to 400F. In a large bowl, combine the yeast and warm water and stir until the yeast dissolves. Add the flour, salt, honey and olive oil; stir to combine using first a wooden spoon then your hands. Let dough rest for 10 minutes.

Sprinkle baking sheet with cornmeal and press dough into it to your desired thickness. Top with your toppings and bake for approximately half an hour or until crust is golden, toppings are heated through and cheese is bubbly.

Roasted Garlic Pizza

1 recipe Easiest Pizza Dough In The World
1 head garlic
olive oil
salt & pepper
shredded mozzarella cheese
oregano

Preheat oven to 400F.

Keeping head of garlic whole, peel away loose papery exterior. Cut just the top off the whole head of garlic and discard. Place garlic on aluminum foil and drizzle with olive oil, then sprinkle with salt and pepper. Take up ends of foil to form a package around the garlic and roast in preheated oven for 20-30 minutes. Allow to cool slightly.

Once garlic is cool enough to handle, unwrap from foil and place on cutting board (not wood, preferably). Using the non cutting edge of a knife, start at the un cut end of the garlic and press and squeeze the softened garlic from the head. Trim any tough tops and using the same knife, smear each clove against the board. The cloves will easily become a paste - roasting the garlic sweetens and softens it beautifully.

Gather up the garlic paste and using a spatula, spread over the pizza dough. Top with shredded mozzarella and oregano. Bake according to pizza dough instructions above. Let cool just slightly before slicing and serving.

  11. I've made this dough several times... it's easy, fast and delicious. Buuut it always sticks horribly to any pan or pizza stone! I use cornmeal as the recipe states but still there's always a residue of crust that sticks to the pan. I'm kind of a noob, what can I do to make it not stick? I tried using olive oil + cornmeal once but it still stuck... maybe just olive oil by itself? thanks for this recipe though, even stuck to the pan it's a keeper. :]

  12. Occasionally I have the sticking problem myself - I usually just add a sprinkle more cornmeal, or move the cornmeal already on the pan, under the sticking part.

  13. This is baking in my oven as we speak. I want to thank you for the garlic thing though, it smelled and looked amazing when I took it out of the aluminum foil. And you have no idea how much I love garlic. Thank you!!

  14. I'm new to home made pizza, but I tried this crust for my first experiment, and it was AWESOME. Half pepperoni for the kids and half just about everything for my wife and me, and it went perfectly.

  19. This looks delicious, but I would like to know what exactly is red in the recipe...I don't see any sauce or tomatoes, so why is the pizza red?

  20. If your pizza continues to stick, you can always just bake it directly on parchment paper, no cornmeal required. Once baked and crisp, it will slide right off the parchment.

  24. This looks amazing. I'm definitely more of a baker than a chef, but I do have my weaknesses. I never know when a recipe calls for yeast if it's ok to use rapid rise yeast or if standard yeast is mandatory. Does anyone have any tips on the difference between the two? Thanks!

  26. That looks amazing! Do you think that rapid rise yeast would be ok to use? For some reason I keep buying rapid rise and I'm not really sure that it makes so much of a difference. Anybody have any experience with this? Thanks!

  28. I made this last night. So delicious and so easy! I thought one batch was enough to split into two large pans, but then realized it wasn't and made another batch in 5 minutes. I did add another 1/4 cup of flour than the recipe calls for as I found the dough a bit sticky. We live in an area where there is no decent take out pizza, this will be our take out from now on!

  30. Is it possible to make the dough ahead of time and cook it later? If so, up to how long can I let it sit out?

  31. This was great. I made it tonight and it was just as easy as you said! The cornmeal gave it a great crunch and texture! Husband said it reminded him a little of the digornos. And he LOVED the way the garlic smelled as it was cooking. I would probably use 2 heads of garlic! I love garlic and one head just didn't have enough for me. I like thecrankyknitter used extra flour much less sticky! I also made this pizza sauce and spread a thin layer on before adding my cheese and toppings! About 15 min later we had a delicious pizza!

  32. This was great my husband said it reminded him of digornos! And he said no more store bought or delivery pizzas! I'm glad he likes it and glad its super easy to make. I also add about 1/4 cup of extra flour to help with the stickiness.

  33. It's 2 tablespoons of cornmeal as well?

  34. Can I use fast rise yeast or just yeast packets?
